Your phone from the States is a tri-band phone, which will work anywhere in the world except Japan (a cuad-band country).
However, when you arrive you will quickly notice your Verizon plan doesn’t work in Ecuador. You will have to in most cases unblock your phone, which can cost anywhere from $5 to $30.
In some cases your phone may not be able to be unblocked.
If you are able to get your phone unblocked, you will then have to buy a local Sim card, which is another $5; which gives you a local number.
From then on you will be able to buy prepaid cards to load but be warned, it is costly down here to talk on the cell, usually costing around $.25 cents a minute to talk between cell phones of the same company.
So do like us pros, and leave your phone at home and buy a cheap, used one down here for around $20, Sim card included.
